The Jewish community of Mumbai spent an evening remembering heroes from the past. On May 4th, the Keneseth Eliyahoo Synagogue at Colaba, observed Holocaust Memorial Day known as Yom HaShoah in Hebrew. The day is observed to pay a tribute to the six million people who lost their lives during the Holocaust in Germany.Counsel Generals of Israel, America, France, and Germany along with Protocol Officer of Government of Maharashtra, Deputy High Commissioner of United Kingdom, Jewish leaders and members of the community were present at the event.<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>All the dignitaries and the people present at the event paid tribute to people from the past. The people also lit memorial candles as a symbol of spreading peace and harmony among communities.The day is observed as Israel’s day of commemoration for the six million Jews who gave their lives and resistance of the survivors in the Holocaust carried out by Nazi Germans. This day was inaugurated in 1953, by the then Prime Minister of Israel, David Ben-Gurion and the President of Israel Yitzhak Ben-Zvi.
