After having decided to improve pathway between Dasturi and Matheran, now four sightseeing points of Matheran too will be improved by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).The four spots are Eco Points, Heart Point, Myra Point and Panorama Point.Recently, the MMRDA floated bids to improve connectivity at these four tourist points. The lanes or pathways leading to the four spots will be improved by way of clay paver blocks. New signages, seats, horse zones, etc, will be put up as part of the beautification drive.<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>The other plan is to improve the drainage system by having ‘eco-friendly sewage’ lines. While laying clay paver blocks along the pathway, pits will be formed at regular intervals to allow percolation of rainwater into the ground and keep the eco-sensitive zone intact and not disturb it. The estimated cost of all the work is Rs46.73 crore. As reported by dna on December 17, the development authority had made public its plans to spend Rs51.55 crore to lay clay paver blocks between Dasturi and Matheran (5.8km) apart from beautifying the walkway with street furniture. There are also plans to improve motoring experience from Neral to Dasturi. The 6.7km-long road from the outskirts of Neral to Dasturi (entrance to Matheran) will be improved and widened not by adding more lanes but by way of putting up bitumen on the soil portion on either sides of the road. The curves along the stretch will be improved to make motoring safer on the hill by spending an estimated Rs27.03 crore. These works are as per the recommendations of the Matheran monitoring committee.
