Police recovered few Maoist posters of Koraput-Malkangiri-Srikakulam division of CPI (Maoist) in Odia and Telegu from the site.

The Maoists through the posters opposed the construction of a 4.5 km PMGSY road from Upper Goloru to Pedapadu in the area and warned three villagers of dire consequences if they supported the work.

Brushing aside allegations that the killed person was an informer, Koraput SP Charan Singh said probe into the incident is on.

KABUL Gunmen attacked the house of an Afghan member of parliament in the capital Kabul on Wednesday night, killing as many as five people, officials said. One police official said three gunmen attacked the house of Mir Wali, a member of parliament from the volatile southern province of Helmand and killed three security guards and two members of the MP’s family. The incident underlined the fragile security situation in Kabul, which has seen repeated attacks by suicide bombers and gunmen in recent months. Helmand, one of the strongholds of the Taliban and source of much of the world’s opium, has fallen increasingly under insurgent control over the past two years.

Officials said police special forces were at the scene of the attack and were concentrating on evacuating people from the house and nearby areas.

The gunmen were still believed to be inside the house, with local news station Tolo News quoting local residents as saying the sound of gunfire and explosions could be heard.

Ahmedabad: A 33-year-old cashier with the State Bank of India allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his residence at Tharad in Banaskantha district, police said.

Though the police refused to assign any motive to the extreme step taken by Prem Shankar Prajapati, his wife said he had talked about “heavy work pressure” at Tharad branch of the bank.

He originally belonged to Barmer in Rajasthan.

“Prajapati was a native of Barmer and has been working as a cashier at SBI’s Tharad branch for last one-and-half-years. Due to some unknown reasons, Prajapati committed suicide by hanging himself from ceiling fan today morning. We have not found any suicide note from the spot,” said Tharad police inspector J G Chavda.

However, Prajapati’s wife Manjula claimed her husband had once complained about the work pressure.

“My husband used to remain tensed after coming home from the bank. He once said that there is so much work pressure. He did not talk much due to tension,” Manjula told reporters outside police station.

Bulandshahr: Nasty brawl after woman jumps bank queue, prompts cops to fire

By

Bulandshahr(UP): A nasty fight erupted outside a bank in Bulandshahr after a woman attempted to jump the queue to withdraw money, prompting police to fire in the air.

The woman, identified as Shanti, tried to jump the queue at the Punjab National Bank’s Aahar branch here.

Those waiting for their turn got agitated and protested, superintendent of police (rural) Jagdish Sharma said. The woman then called five youths, who on arrival at the bank started beating those protesting against Shanti’s behaviour.

PARIS France’s Suez sees potential for 10 percent revenue growth in India, where it already supplies water for 44 million people, a senior executive said on Friday. The Indian market is largely in public hands and Suez runs 23 drinking water and waste water plants owned by municipalities, mostly under a “Design, Build, Operate” (DBO) model in big cities.Suez had revenue of 100 million euros ($104 million) in India in 2015, of which 40 million came from building plants and about 30 million from services to industry. Our growth potential is about 10 percent per year in India for the next three to five years,” Suez’s chief for Africa, Middle East and India Pierre-Yves Pouliquen told Reuters.

India is small compared to China, where Suez had revenue of 1.2 billion euros in 2015, but rapid urbanisation is creating opportunities and Pouliquen estimates its drinking water market at $3 billion and its waste water market at $750 million.

Suez competes in India with local water specialists such as Vatech Vabag and Ion Exchange and construction giant Larsen & Toubro.($1 = 0.9588 euros)

Human Rights Day: India lost 40 journalists since 1992 on line of duty

Sixty-eight years ago, in 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. To mark the occasion every year since 1950, 10 December is celebrated as Human Rights Day. But safeguarding human rights hasn’t been easy. Over the years, several people journalists have lost their lives while reporting about human rights violations, corruption and for doing their job. In India too, since 1992, when the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) started keeping records of journalist deaths, 40 journalists have been killed for doing their job.

On Human Rights Day, we take a look at some of those deaths and analyse the data available with CPJ to remind you of the importance of press freedom and the journalists who lost their lives.

The number of killings mentioned are only those where the motives have been confirmed, actual number of journalists killed could be higher.

MUMBAI India’s central bank said on Monday that people can withdraw up to 250,000 rupees ($3,670) for wedding related expenses, provided they submit adequate proof and the wedding is on or before Dec. 30.The cash withdrawals will be allowed out of the balance in the account as of close of business on Nov. 8, the Reserve Bank of India said in a statement. (bit.ly/2g9nZt1)Prime Minister Narendra Modi dropped a bombshell on Nov. 8 by abolishing 500 and 1,000 rupee notes that accounted for 86 percent of cash in circulation. The move was aimed at cracking down on the shadow economy but has brought India’s cash economy to a virtual standstill.Modi’s decision to withdraw the high-value bills in the middle of the wedding and seed sowing season has drawn widespread criticism from Indians forced to queue at banks to exchange bills or without cash to pay for goods and services.

The RBI said the wedding withdrawals could be made by either of the parents or the people getting married after submitting an application.People looking to withdraw have to also submit evidence of the wedding, including the invitation card and copies of receipts for advance payments, and a detailed list of people who will receive the cash.

The RBI also said it would allow farmers to withdraw cash up to 25,000 rupees a week from their loan or deposit accounts subject to their accounts. (bit.ly/2guTdiv)Earlier on Monday, the Indian government allowed farmers to purchase seeds with old 500 rupee banknote from state-run outlets.
