Kolkata hit-and-run: Accused Sambia Sohrab slapped with murder charge; remanded to 14 days police custody

Prime accused in the hit and run case where an Air Force officer, Corporal Abhimanyu Gaud was run over, Sambia Sohrab was remanded to 14 days police custody till January 30 by a special court here in Kolkata.Sohrab’s counsel, N Islam argued that he was not driving the car and had not confessed to the crime. However, the public prosecutor, Abhijeet Mukherjee said that Sohrab confessed to the crime in his statement. The court has slapped charges of murder and criminal conspiracy. <!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Sohrab was arrested from Beckbagan on Saturday night and interrogated throughout the night, before being produced in the court. Two more co-accused in connection to the crime, are still at large.

Launching another salvo on the West Bengal government, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) administration and the Kolkata police of having joined hands in an attempt to save the TMC MP’s son who has been accused in the fatal hit-and-run case of an IAF corporal. “It’s a classic case where the TMC administration and the Kolkata police were trying to a save a TMC leader’s son in a hit-and-run case. When the public pressure mounted because of the media and BJP they decided that things are going against them, so after hundred hours they finally arrested him,” BJP leader Siddharth Nath Singh said.<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>He asserted that the arrest of the TMC MP’s son proves the functioning of the state government and the Kolkata police. Sambia Sohrab was arrested around 11.10 pm last night while he was heading towards his in-laws’ house. Following questioning, he is likely to be produced before the court here on Sunday as he faces charges of murder and criminal conspiracy. Sambia is TMC leader Mohammad Sohrab’s son and last Wednesday, he allegedly ran over IAF corporal Abhimanyu Gaud amidst the Republic Day parade rehearsal in Kolkata. Gaud was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead.

Kolkata hit-and-run: Main accused Sambia Sohrab finally arrested

Almost four days after a speeding car ran over Air Force Abhimanyu Gaud, prime accused, Sambia Sohrab was arrested on Saturday night. Sambia is TMC leader Mohammad Sohrab’s son. Gaud was killed in the hit and run on Red Road amidst the Republic Day parade rehearsal in Kolkata. Around 11.10 pm, Sohrab was arrested from Central Kolkata. He has been brought to Lalbazar, the Kolkata Police headquarters. The car is owned by TMC leader Mohammad Sohrab’s son Ambia Sohrab. A challan, left behind by the driver of the car mentioned Ambia’s name as the person to whom the newly-purchased car was delivered. The car was purchased on January 4 by Mussadi Business Pvt Ltd, company owned by Mohammad Sohrab.
