The court however allowed her to attend rituals anywhere in Mumbai, including at her residence, on December 27.Indrani’s father Upendra Bora died on December 15. The agency produced an e-mail sent by Indrani’s son Mikhail to CBI, saying he did not want her to visit Guwahati. Mikhail, an important witness in the case, said in the mail that his grandfather was bed-ridden for the past one year and he was looking after both his grandparents for the last three years without any financial and psychological support from Indrani.

Therefore it is my utmost plea that I don’t want Indrani to come to Guwahati and visit me as this will create chaos and unnecessary disturbance in my life due to media and other persons, and will hamper post-death rituals of my grandfather,” Mikhail said.CBI also said that Indrani’s intention was to influence prosecution witnesses and there was also a possibility that she might try to escape from custody. Indrani’s lawyer then said she may be allowed to conduct the rituals in Mumbai.

After the special prosecutors Bharat Badami and Kavita Patil finished the arguments, CBI’s investigating officer informed Indrani about her father’s demise in Assam. Indrani, through her lawyer, told the special judge H S Mahajan that CBI had been insensitive. She was informed only today when her father had died on Thursday, she told the court.”It’s very insensitive,” her lawyer said, adding that neither the CBI nor the jail officials informed her, and action should be taken against them for this lapse. The judge said he would warn the CBI officer at the hearing tomorrow. While coming out of the court, Indrani broke down. She was heard saying to the investigating officer, “You didn’t do the right thing. You should have told me earlier. You hadn’t told me about my mother’s death too (back in October 2015).” Indrani, her driver Shyam Rai (who has now turned approver in the case) and Khanna are accused of killing her daughter Sheena inside a car here in April 2012.Peter Mukerjea is accused of being a party to the conspiracy.

In a handwritten application, Peter also said he was finding it very difficult to write in long-hand.If allowed, he would work on the laptop for four hours a day and afterwards hand it back to jail authorities, the application said. “(I am) 61 years old and suffering from occasional memory fatigue and laptop will be of great help to aid in continuing the work without locating details during the writing and scripting process,” Peter said in the application. He also applied for permission to go to Bangalore to attend the wedding of his niece.CBI is likely to file its reply to his applications on December 14. Rakesh Maria had said that Peter Mukherjee was not guilty: Maha CM Fadnavis

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>In a significant revelation in the wake of CBI questioning the senior IPS officer Rakesh Maria in the Sheena Bora murder case, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, on Saturday, said the former Mumbai police commissioner had stated that the media baron Peter Mukerjea was not guilty.Maria was shunted out as Mumbai police chief last year in the middle of Sheena murder probe which he was supervising personally. It was speculated that the government was not happy that he was taking so much interest in the case. CBI later took over the case and arrested Peter Mukerjea. According to the charge sheets filed in the case, Peter’s wife Indrani Mukerjea, her former spouse Sanjeev Khanna and her ex-driver Shyamvar Rai strangled Sheena, her daughter from another relationship, in April 2012. All three were arrested by police; Peter was arrested by CBI later. “During a police briefing, Maria came to us and said Peter is not guilty. And now we find CBI has made him an accused.CBI is investigating on the lines that Peter is part of the conspiracy,” Fadnavis, who handles the home portfolio himself, said. “It is something to think about as to how a police officer who was deeply involved in the case thought this way,” Fadnavis said, speaking to reporters at his official residence ‘Varsha’ here. CBI earlier this week questioned Maria, now Maharashtra’s Director General (Home Guards); Deven Bharti, Joint Commissioner (Law and Order); and Satya Narayan Choudhary, Deputy Commissioner of Police, because they were part of the initial probe team.

Sheena Bora email opens can of worms

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>The supplementary chargesheet submitted by the Central Bureau of Investigation to a special Mumbai court in the 2012 Sheena Bora murder case, on Friday, attached a number of emails that highlighted the animosity between Peter Mukerjea and Sheena Bora.Even if Sheena tried to make peace with Peter, he bore grudges against the deceased. An email dated April 3, 2011, which Sheena had addressed to Peter, makes mention of a few messages which was sent to Indrani two years ago.Sheena, in her email, said she had written messages to Indrani from boyfriend Rahul’s mobile, apologising to Peter. “The messages which were sent from Rahul’s phone to Indrani, was sent to Indrani by me, and not Rahul,” the email stated. The email went on the say, “Rahul had nothing to do with any of those text messages as it was a personal family issue between me and Indrani. He was dragged into it unnecessarily. I was upset with Vidhi (Rahul’s daughter) because of an extremely unpleasant, upsetting and humiliating email that was sent to me from her mailbox. That night, I wasn’t aware that someone else had used her mailbox to do something of that sort without a single thought of it possibly affecting other people and relationships. Receiving that email from Vidhi, whom I love so much, really broke my heart. I want Vidhi to know that I still love her a lot and I have absolutely nothing against her. Also, I never had, and will never have hard feelings for you. I never want to hurt you in any way. My problem is only with Indrani, which is personal. I feel it’s pretty unfair to judge anything or anyone by knowing only one side of the story. Let’s not talk about an apology only from me for those text messages. You should also try and look into the past and figure out what triggered me to react the way I did through those text messages. I would simply appreciate if you don’t suggest or advice anything in the matter. I don’t want or expect anything from you, Vids or Indrani. Nothing at all.””I have never interfered in you lives and would still expect the same from you all. No further advice, suggestions, .. from you or Indrani as a text message to Rahul or to me through Skanda or my grandparents will be entertained . It was quite inappropriate receiving text messages from you telling me what to do and what not to do around Shriparna’s wedding. It was just unnecessary interference from your end. Also, it would be great if you could make Indrani understand that bad-mouthing me or Rahul won’t solve anything. It’s immature and silly. After you receive this mail, I would really appreciate if I don’t receive any any or unpleasant mails from you all. I am not interest in creating any problem for anyone or myself. This mail is just to clear the bitterness, anger and confusion you all have for us for whatever reasons. Hope this helps!”Sheena went on to say in the email, “Keeping me aside, you and Rahul have your father-son relationship which I would never want to, or like to interfere in. I will never have any problem if you two are in touch. The defence counsels in the Sheena Bora murder case on Saturday received the witness statements which the Khar Police had submitted to the CBI, and which the agency had given to the court. The 80-page document, which was submitted before the court, has statements by police officers from Pen—who had recovered the skeleton of Sheena. The document also has statements of the domestic help who used to work with the accused.

Sheena Bora murder case: CBI charge sheet confirms Peter Mukerjea’s role, property was a motive

A supplementary charge sheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday asserted that former media baron Peter Mukerjea was indeed aware of the murder of Sheena Bora. The report also confirmed property angle in the 2012 murder case. Arguments on framing of charge are set to begin on Saturday.

According to CNN-News18, CBI has asserted that though “Peter was not in India when the murder took place, he was part of the conspiracy.” The charge sheet, third in the case, also said that the investigation has thrown up evidence that “Indrani was in touch with him while she was doing the recce of the place to dispose of her body, and after the disposal of Sheena’s body,” the TV news channel said on Friday.

The charge sheet also asserts that unlike what Peter has been stating, he was against the relationship between his son Rahul and Sheena citing an email conversation between the accused and Rahul.

The charge sheet also throws light on how Sheena and Rahul were separated by Indrani and how Indrani brought Sheena to Mumbai under the pretext of financial assistance, TimesNow said on Friday. “The charge sheet gives details of the relationship between Indrani and Sheena citing few email and SMS exchanges between the two,” it said.

According to the news channel, the charge sheet for the first time also confirms property angle in the murder. “It has brought out in the open details of financial transactions, and wills of Ridhie and Sheena Bora that were not raised by Indrani,” the news channel said. Moder details on the evidence are expected to surface when the case goes on trial.

Sheena (24) was strangled in a car in Mumbai on April 2012 allegedly by her mother Indrani Mukerjea, Indrani’s former husband Sanjeev Khanna and her former driver Shyamvar Rai. Sheena’s body was then dumped in a forest in neighbouring Raigad district.

There had been two charge sheets filed in the case so far. According to the first charge sheet filed on 19 November last year, the CBI had named Indrani, Khanna, and Rai as accused in the case. The trio was arrested in August last year after Rai spilled the beans while he was being interrogated in a case pertaining to illegal possession of arms.

Rai later turned approver in the case. According to investigators, Sheena’s relationship with Rahul, son of Indrani’s current husband and former media baron Peter Mukerjea, was the possible motive behind her murder apart from certain financial dealings. The second charge sheet was filed on 16 February against Peter for his alleged role in the murder plot. He was arrested on 19 November last year.

The agency had stated Sheena was killed as her relationship with Rahul was disapproved by Peter and Indrani both of whom were part of the plot to murder her. However, Peter had denied the allegations. He had cited his emails to prove that he was never against the relationship.

The investigation agency had informed the Bombay High Court of the charge sheet on 17 October. According to a PTI report, the trial on the case is expected to begin in the first week of December. The high court had given the CBI one month’s time (November) to comply with formalities, PTI reported on 17 October.

Sheena Bora murder: Judicial custody of accused extended till Oct 5

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>The judicial custody of all the three accused in the Sheena Bora murder case was on Tuesday extended till October 5. The lawyer of media magnate Peter Mukerjea, a co-accused in the case, has filed an application to object framing of charges as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is yet to complete its investigation in the case. The order on the application of Peter will be pronounced at 5 p.m. today. The Special CBI court had in July adjourned the hearing on Peter ‘s application, which sought the statement of witness number 32, till July 20. The central agency had in its supplementary chargesheet filed in February, submitted the statement of an unnamed witness in a sealed cover. The CBI had said they are not revealing the identity or the statement of the witness as the investigation was going on. The special court earlier on July 1 gave copies of Shyamwar Rai’s confession to co-accused Sanjeev Khanna and others on the Bombay High Court’s directive. Indrani, Khanna and Shyamwar Rai had allegedly strangled Sheena Bora, Peter’s daughter from an earlier relationship, inside a car in April 2012.The trio was arrested in August last year, while Peter was arrested in November last year. Sheena’s body was found in a forest in Raigad. The crime, which came to light in August last year, is allegedly linked to certain financial dealings.

Sheena Bora murder case: Indrani Mukerjea sat on daughter and strangled her, says driver Rai

Mumbai: Immediately after Sheena Bora’s murder and the subsequent disposal of her body on 24 April, 2012, key accused Indrani Mukerjea allegedly threatened her then driver Shyamvar Rai, who has now turned approver, saying “it won’t be good” for him if he disclosed the incident.

In his confessional statement, which was unsealed by the special CBI court on Friday, following a Bombay High Court directive Thursday, Rai has submitted that Indrani had ‘implicated’ him in an arms case by planting a gun on him soon after Sheena’s murder.

The petition seeking copy of Rai’s confessional statement was filed by Indrani’s former husband Sanjeev Khanna through his lawyer Shreyansh Mithare.

Kisi se kuch kahna nahi, nahi to tumhara bhi thik nahi hoga. (Don’t tell anything to anybody (about the murder) or else it won’t be good for you,” Rai stated quoting Indrani.

Rai’s arrest by Khar police here under Arms Act in August 2015 had blown the lid off the murder.

The trial court recently allowed him to turn approver in the murder case and become a prosecution witness.

According to prosecution, 24-year-old Sheena was murdered on 24 April, 2012. Indrani, Khanna and Rai had allegedly strangled Sheena, Indrani’s daughter from an earlier relationship, inside a car. Her body was later found in a forest in Raigad.

The crime, which came to light last year, is allegedly linked to certain financial dealings.

In his confession recorded last year by a magistrate, Rai had said that Indrani gave him a parcel and asked him to keep it carefully.

“After the murder, Indrani gave me a parcel and asked me to keep it carefully. Later Indrani’s secretary Kajal gave me advance salary of three months and asked me to leave the job”, Rai stated.

He said that when he opened the parcel, he found that it contained a a country-made pistol.

Rai said he failed to dispose of the gun on two occasions as he developed cold feet. He said he was arrested when he tried to get rid of the gun for third time.

About his arrest in August last year, Rai said when he was dumping the gun he suddenly saw some cops around and tried to flee. However, police stopped him and the gun was found on him. “Later they took me to the police chowky where I narrated the incident (about Sheena Bora case),” he said.

Rai said that in March 2012, a month before Sheena’s murder, Kajal had told him that Indrani asked her to open a Skype account for him as she wanted to speak to him (Rai).

“Indrani told me that you are my trusted servant. I want to talk to you. You don’t reveal anything to anybody. Then she said she will take care of my children’s school as well as family’s medical expenses and promised me to make my job permanent”, Rai stated.

According to Rai, Indrani told him that her son Mikail and daughter Sheena are maligning her by addressing her as their mother. She also told him that she is locked in a property dispute with her children.

“Sheena has an affair with Rahul (son of former media baron and Indrani’s current husband Peter Mukerjea who is also arrested in the case) so I want to kill Sheena and Mikail. You don’t worry… your job is of a driver. Another person from Kolkata will do the job (murder)”, Rai said quoting Indrani.

He stated that Indrani later came to Mumbai and asked him to tell Mikhail to come to the city. “She asked me to tell Mikail that she (Indrani) has a lot of wealth and if he comes to Mumbai then they (Rai and Mikail) both can have lot of fun”, Rai said.

“I followed Indrani’s instructions but Mikail refused to come,” Rai said in his confession, which runs into 14 pages.

He stated that Indrani left Mumbai after some days before handing him a doctor’s prescription. Rai said Indrani told him that she would let him know later about what to do with the prescription.

As per Rai, Indrani again contacted him on Skype and directed him to collect a parcel from a person coming from Kolkata.

She also told him to buy six bottles of the prescribed medicine and contact her after reaching Delhi.

“When I reached Delhi, Indrani told me that the person to whom the medicines have to be handed over could not be contacted and hence asked me to come back to Mumbai”, Rai claimed.

He said that Indrani later instructed him to go to Kolkata with the medicines and hand them over to a person at the airport there.

“On 22 April, 2012, Indrani told me to hire a car and go to Lonavala taking old route and later come back to Mumbai via Khandla and Khopoli. She asked me to park the vehicle at her residence (Marlow building at Worli)”, Rai stated.

Next day, I was told to pick up Indrani from airport and we reached home. He said Indrani asked him to take her to Lonavala through the same route on that day.

“Upon reaching there, Indrai asked me to purchase a 20-litre petrol can. When we reached Khandala she ventured out of the vehicle and scouted some places, saying it is perfect for Mikail.

“Then she called Mikhail and spoke to him over phone. After that when we reached Khopoli she asked me to take Pen route, did the same thing, and remarked that it was a nice place for Sheena. Remember these places we have to come back tomorrow (24 April, 2012)”, Rai said.

He claimed that on 24 April, Indrani first visited a medical store, then a wine shop and handed him over a packet. “She told me that she will return after going to a parlour,” he stated.

Rai stated the packet contained a vodka bottle, two bottles of mineral water, six bottles of medicines and a liquor bottle along with hand gloves.

He further stated that Indrani later mixed the medicines in water and liquor bottles.

“On that day, Indrani left her home for suburban Bandra and picked up (Sanjeev) Khanna and Sheena from outside National College. She gave Sheena one of the water bottles and after some time when I saw from the rear mirror the girl had dozed off.

“After a while, Indrani told me to park the vehicle roadside and asked Khanna (who was sitting alongside Rai on front seat) to shift to back seat”, Rai stated, adding Indani also asked him to come to back seat and gag Sheena.

“I saw Khanna grabbing Sheena by her hair and Indrani strangulating her after sitting on her lap. When I gagged her, Sheena bit my finger and it began to bleed. However, later she dropped down on the seat”, Raid stated.

Rai said that Indrani told him that Sheena now “got a three-bedroom flat”.

As per Rai, Indrani also told him that since Rahul was continuously calling on Sheena’s mobile phone, she (Indrani) would send him a message (from Sheena’s phone) “to shut him up”.

“Indrani and Khanna stuffed Sheena’s body into a bag and asked me to keep it in garage”, Rai stated.

He said when they returned to Indrani’s house, he saw Mikail sitting there and having drinks.

“Indrani told me that even after drinking so much liquor, Mikail has still not lost his senses. At this, Khanna said that Mikail can be taken care of later as there would be a problem in carrying two bodies”, Rai stated.

He disclosed that Indrani called him in early hours of 25 April and told him to take out the bag (containing Sheena’s body) from the garage.

He said Indrani also asked him to keep the petrol can in the car dickey.

“Indrani and Khanna then made Sheena’s body sit on the back seat. I was driving the car with Khanna by my side and Indrani sitting next to the body. Indrani asked me to drive towards Pen. Khanna purchased 10 litre petrol on the way and by that time Indrani was busy applying makeup to Sheena”, Rai stated.

At Pen, Indrani asked Rai to stop the car at the location chosen by them to dispose of Sheena’s body.

“Khanna and Indrani pulled Sheena out of car and I helped them. We placed her near a bush in the forest. Indrani covered the body with a sari and also threw the gloves on her. In the meantime, Khanna poured petrol on the body and Indrani set it on fire”, Rai claimed.

CBI had filed a chargesheet against Indrani, Khanna and Rai for murdering Sheena and disposing of her body, on 19 November last year.

As per the chargesheet filed by CBI against Peter in February this year, Sheena was killed as her relationship with Rahul was disapproved by the former media baron and Indrani.

Since her arrest, Indrani has been lodged in a women’s jail in Byculla in South Mumbai, While Peter, arrested last November on charges of being part of the murder conspiracy, and Khanna are in Arthur Road jail in the city.

Sheena Bora case: HC tells CBI court to give Shyamvar Rai’s confessional statement to all co-accused

The Bombay High Court on Thursday directed the Special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court to give the confessional statement recorded before a magistrate by accused-turned-approver Shyamvar Rai, to all co-accused in the case.Justice Sadhana Jadhav while directing the CBI court said, “It is a statutory duty of the prosecution to provide all the evidence which it is relying on to the accused, help them defend.” The court gave this direction while allowing a petition filed by accused Sanjeev Khanna who had sought for the confessional statement.<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>The court while setting aside the order of the CBI court rejecting Khanna’s application noted, “Prosecution is in a case and people are not prosecuted. The sessions court while rejecting the plea noted that prosecution is not relying on the confessional statement at the present moment. This contention was incorrect as the trial is yet to commence.”CBI advocate Poornima Kantharia said that the investigation is still in progress, so the statement would be released as soon as the investigation is complete. Sanjeev Khanna’s advocate Hrishikesh Mundargi at the same time argued that the prosecution cannot hold back the statements and it’s their right under Section 207 of the Evidence Act to get the statement. On April 24, 2012, Indrani Mukerjea allegedly strangulated and murdered her daughter Sheena Bora along with driver Shyamwar Rai and her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna. They were arrested in August last year while Peter Mukerjea, Indrani’s husband was arrested in November, 2015 on charges of murder, abduction and destruction of evidence. Rai was made an approver in the case on June 20, 2016 and has been granted pardon on certain terms and conditions.

Sheena Bora murder case: Bombay HC seeks CBI’s response on Peter Mukerjea’s bail plea

Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Monday asked CBI for its response on the bail plea of former media baron Peter Mukerjea, arrested for his alleged involvement in the murder of his wife Indrani’s daughter Sheena Bora.

Justice Revati Mohite Dere who issued notice to CBI, posted Peter’s application for hearing on 7 July.

He has approached the high court seeking bail after the sessions court rejected his plea on two occasions.

Peter, who was arrested in November last year by the agency, in his bail application on Saturday assailed the lower court orders rejecting his petition, and said there is nothing incriminating against him in the chargesheet.

Others who were arrested in the case were Indrani, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and her former driver Shyamvar Rai, who has been made an approver and granted pardon.

In his plea, Peter has questioned the lower court’s refusal to grant him bail on the ground that the probe was still on.

It said a further probe, once the chargesheet has been filed, has no fixed deadline, and merely mentioning that the investigation was still was not a fair ground to keep a man in custody indefinitely.

He was arrested on the day CBI filed its first chargesheet in the court against Indrani, Khanna and Rai, who were arrested last August.

“There is still not an iota of evidence against Peter, and he has been kept behind bars only on suspicion. An arrest on mere suspicion based only on calls at odd hours is extremely tenuous,” the application said.

According to the prosecution, Sheena was murdered on 24 April, 2012, but the crime came to light after the arrest of Rai in another case in August 2015.

Key accused Indrani, Khanna and Rai had allegedly strangled Sheena (24), Indrani’s daughter from an earlier relationship, inside a car. Sheena’s body was found in a forest in Raigad. The crime, which came to light in August last year, is allegedly linked to certain financial dealings.

According to CBI, Peter was part of the murder conspiracy.

While Peter and Khanna are lodged in Arthur Road prison, Indrani (43) is in Byculla jail.

Sheena Bora murder: Driver Shyam Rai turns approver against Indrani Mukerjea

A special CBI court on Monday made Indrani Mukerjea’s former driver Shyamvar Rai an approver in the Sheena Bora murder case. The court has also granted him pardon.

“I saw Sheena murder,” Rai claimed to cops, reports CNN News 18. Rai has been ordered by the judges to reveal everything.

Sheena Bora’s brother Mikhail Bora too demands to be made a witness. “Indrani is lying about my involvement in Sheena’s murder” said Mikhail as reported by CNN News 18.

The CBI on 6 June had told a special court that it does not have any objection in making key accused Indrani’s former driver Shyamvar Rai an approver in the Sheena Bora murder case.

“We have filed our reply and have said that we don’t have any objection in making Rai an approver provided that he reveals all the truth in connection with the case,” a CBI official had said.

Special CBI prosecutor Kavita Patil, on 17 May, had sought more time to file its reply on the desire expressed by Rai to turn approver in the case. Special Judge HS Majahan had then adjourned the case until 6 June.

Earlier, on 11 May, Rai had sought to turn approver, saying he wanted to “disclose all truths” as he had taken part in Sheena’s killing by strangulation and was present at the time of the murder in 2012.

Recording his statement before a special CBI court then, Rai had said he was under “no pressure, threat or coercion” to reveal the facts in the case and was “repentant” about his act.

The development has come after Rai, an accused, wrote a two-page letter to the court last month seeking pardon in the case while stating that he wants to tell all.

Rai was the first accused to be arrested in the case in August 2015.

The killing came to light after Rai was picked up in connection with an arms case and later spilled the beans.

Rai last year had recorded his confessional statement before the magistrate under the provisions of Section 164, which unlike the police statement, is admissible in the trial. Indrani, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and Rai had allegedly strangled Sheena (24), Indrani’s daughter from an earlier relationship, inside a car in April 2012.

Her body was found in a forest in Raigad. The crime, which came to light in August last year, is allegedly linked to certain financial dealings.

The trio was arrested in August last year while Indrani’s husband and former media baron Peter Mukerjea was arrested in November. According to the CBI, Peter was part of the murder conspiracy.

While Peter (59) and Khanna are lodged in Arthur Road prison, Indrani (43) is in Byculla Womens’ Jail.

Indrani Mukerjea’s ex-driver seeks to become approver

In a new twist in the sensational Sheena Bora murder case, Shyamvar Rai, former driver of key accused Indrani Mukerjea, sought to turn approver on Wednesday, saying he wants to “disclose all truths” as he was party to the crime – of killing her by strangulation. Rai last year had recorded his confessional statement before the magistrate under the provisions of section 164, which unlike the police statement, is admissible in the trial. Sheena (24), Indrani’s daughter from an earlier relationship, was strangulated inside a car in April 2012. Her body was found in a forest in Raigad. The crime, which came to light in August, is allegedly linked to certain financial dealings. Indrani, Sanjeev and Rai were arrested in August last year by Khar police while Peter was arrested in November by the CBI after the case was transferred to them by the state government. According to CBI, Peter was part of the murder conspiracy.

Sheena Bora murder case: Indrani Mukherjea’s driver seeks to turn approver

Lending a new twist to the sensational Sheena Bora murder case, key accused Indrani Mukerjea’s former driver Shyamvar Rai on Wednesday sought to turn approver, saying he wants to “disclose all truths” as he had taken part in her killing by strangulation.

The development came after Rai, an accused, wrote a two-page letter to the court a week before, seeking pardon in the case while stating that he wants to reveal the truth.

He had said that he wishes to narrate the entire sequence of events in the case.

He wrote saying that he wants to turn approver, CNN News 18 reported. This means that he could reveal inside details of how the conspiracy to commit the murder was hatched, in exchange for being protected for prosecution in the case.

When Special Judge HS Mahajan called Rai in the box on Wednesday, he said, “I am aware about the acts connected with the commission of the offence.”

The judge questioned Rai if he had written the letter from the jail to which he replied in the affirmative.

When the judge asked how Rai knew about the incident, he replied, “I was present at the time of murder and was a participant.”

He also told the court that Sheena was killed by strangulation.

He also told the court that he was under “no pressure, threat or coercion” to reveal the facts in the case and was “repentant” for his act.

The court directed CBI to file its reply on 17 May over Rai’s plea to turn approver in the case.

It also asked Thane Jail Superintendent and Thane Police Commissioner to ensure that Rai is produced in the court on the next hearing.

Indrani, her husband Peter Mukerjea and her former husband Sanjeev Khanna were present in court as Rai’s statement was being recorded.

However, their lawyers said that even if the court accepts Rai’s plea and makes him an approver, their case won’t be affected.

“Its not CBI’s case that Rai ever communicated with Peter during the course of murder and there’s no evidence against him,” said Peter’s lawyer Mihir Gheewala.

Khanna’s lawyer advocate Shreyansh Mithare also echoed the same view and said that this new development won’t have any impact on their case.

While Indrani’s lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani refused to comment on the fresh turn in the case, saying he will first have to go through the statement of Rai.

Meanwhile, a Mumbai court on Wednesday extended the judicial custody of Indrani, Peter, Rai and Khanna till 17 May in connection with the high-profile murder case, Zee News reported.

Rai was the first accused to be arrested in connection with the murder case in August 2015.

Two days ago, the court had castigated Thane jail officials for failing to produce Rai before the court and had warned of contempt proceedings while directing them to bring him Wednesday.

Rai has been a crucial link to the entire murder case. Arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm, it was him who told the police about the murder.

In October 2015, Rai had put forward an application to the court saying he is willing to tell ‘the truth’ in relation to the Sheena Bora murder case.

24-year-old Sheena, daughter of Indrani from an earlier relationship, was allegedly strangled in a car and her
body burnt and dumped in a forest in Raigad in April 2012.

Indrani, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and Rai had allegedly strangled Sheena inside a car. The crime, which came to light in August, is allegedly linked to certain financial dealings.

On 19 November 2015, Peter Mukerjea, media baron and husband of Indrani, was also arrested for his alleged role in the murder case. He has been kept at the high-security Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai where Khanna and Rai are also lodged.

While Peter, Khanna and Rai are lodged in Arthur Road prison, Indrani (43) is in Byculla womens’ jail.

Sheena Bora murder case: No bail for Indrani Mukerjea; medical facilities to be provided

The special CBI court in Mumbai on Friday rejected the bail application of Indrani Mukerjea, the prime accused in the Sheena Bora murder case. While refusing her bail, the judge H S Mahajan passed directions about the medical facilities to be provided to her. She had cited her health as a ground for bail.”Indrani can take private treatment in private hospitals with private doctor,” the judge said.<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>The court said it had given directions regarding her diet too, and every quarter a panel of doctors will check her and the report will be sent directly to the court.Indrani’s bail application said she was suffering from `chronic small vessels inchemic changes’, and as a result the supply of oxygen to the brain may stop, leading to a life threatening brain stroke. She suffered frequent blackouts due to her condition, it said, adding that it took around 45 to 60 minutes to reach hospital from the Byculla women’s prison where she is lodged.Last October, when she fainted in the prison, it took around five hours for the treatment to start, it said.Indrani, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and former driver Shyam Rai are accused of strangling her 24-year-old daughter Sheena in a car and burning the body in a Raigad forest in 2012. Her husband and media baron Peter Mukerjea, too has been arrested in the case.

Sheena Bora murder case: Peter Mukerjea files second bail plea

Mumbai: Media baron Peter Mukerjea, arrested in the Sheena Bora murder case, has filed a second bail plea, contending that the chargesheet doesn’t have “reasonable grounds” to hold him guilty.

The special CBI court in Mumbai had rejected his first bail application in February.

Mr Mukerjea’s lawyer Kushal Mor filed the second bail application in the special court yesterday.

There was no further justification for keeping him in custody as there were no “reasonable grounds” in the chargesheet to believe that “he has been guilty of offences with which he is charged”, it said.

As per the chargesheet, Mr Mukerjea’s motive for committing the crime (participating in the conspiracy to murder Sheena) was that he was against the relationship between Ms Bora and his son Rahul Mukerjea.

This was “demonstrably untrue and unsustainable,” the application said, citing emails exchanged by Mr Mukerjea and his son in December 2011 which it said proved that Mr Mukerjea was not opposed to Rahul Mukerjea and Sheena Bora’s engagement.

The application also said Mr Mukerjea was a senior citizen, suffered from high blood pressure and high cholesterol, and his health would deteriorate if he was kept in jail.

Mr Mukerjea, whose wife Indrani Mukerjea is the prime accused in the case, was arrested on November 19. He is lodged in the Arthur Road jail in Mumbai.

Other co-accused, Ms Mukerjea’s former husband Sanjeev Khanna and her driver Shyamvar Rai, are in the same jail, while Ms Mukerjea is in the Byculla women’s jail.

The trio allegedly strangled Ms Bora (24), Indrani Mukerjea’s daughter from an earlier relationship, inside a car in April 2012. The crime came to light last August.

All accused are in jail under judicial custody.

Sheena, Indrani’s daughter from an earlier relationship, was murdered on 24 April, 2012 and her body was burnt before it was dumped in a forest in adjoining Raigad district of Maharashtra.

The murder came to light in August 2015 and it was initially probed by Mumbai Police before being handed over to CBI in September.

In the second chargesheet filed in mid-February, CBI claimed that the 24-year-old was killed as her father and Indrani strongly disapproved of her relationship with Peter’s son Rahul. Both Peter and Indrani were part of the murder plot, it said.

Sheena was working with Mumbai Metro before she went missing in April 2012.

The first chargesheet was filed on 19 November by CBI and it named Indrani, Khanna and Rai as accused. The document, running into more than 1,000 pages and containing statements of 150 witnesses, 200 documents and seven statements recorded before a magistrate, was submitted before Magistrate RV Adone at Esplanade court in South Mumbai.

The same day Peter was arrested for his alleged role in the murder and his name figured in the second document. He was in CBI custody for two weeks before being sent to judicial custody.

The second chargesheet did not mention details of the financial transactions and the agency had then indicated it may submit another document in future.

Missed clues and lax security led to Pathankot terror attack?

Analysts and officials said the attackers may have worked in groups, with the carjackers acting together and two others believed to have entered the air base separately, possibly before the main attack. One remains unaccounted for. Home Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted his congratulations on Saturday evening to India’s security forces on “successfully neutralizing all the five terrorists in ‘Pathankot Operation'”. At the time, the official body count was four. Singh’s tweet was later deleted.
