Sheena Bora murder case: Indrani Mukerjea performs post-death rituals for father

Mumbai: Indrani Mukerjea, prime accused in the Sheena Bora murder case, on Tuesday performed the post-death rituals for her father at Brahman Seva Samiti hall here and returned to the Byculla Women’s prison in the evening.

The special CBI court in Mumbai had last week granted her permission to perform the rituals anywhere in Mumbai. The court, however, had rejected her plea for interim bail to visit her hometown, Guwahati, for the purpose, following her father Upendra Bora’s death on 15 December.

Indrani left jail at around 7.30 am today with a police escort for Brahman Seva Samiti hall in Mulund. After
performing rituals there till 4.30 pm, she visited a nearby temple for prayers for an hour, a police officer said.

Judge HS Mahajan had said in his order that she shall not speak to media during the time she was out of the prison.

She shall be brought back to jail by 7 pm, the judge had said.

CBI had opposed Indrani’s request for interim bail to visit Assam. It had produced an e-mail sent by her son
Mikhail, which said he did not want her to visit Guwahati.

Indrani’s intention was to influence prosecution witnesses and there was also a possibility that she would try
to escape, CBI said.

Indrani, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and her former driver Shyam Rai are accused of killing Sheena, her daughter from an earlier relationship, in April 2012. Her husband and former media baron Peter Mukerjea too has been arrested in the case for being party to the conspiracy.

Sheena Bora murder: CBI begins arguments, claims Indrani Mukerjea wanted property

The Sheena Bora murder story has captured the national imagination like no other. It has intrigue, suspense, drama and money. After Sheena Bora went missing in 2012, the case gained prominence only in 2015.

On Monday, the Central Bureau of Investigation re-opened the murder case in the special CBI court arguing on the draft charges it had filed against all the accussed. According to a report in DNA, the CBI has claimed to have enough evidence to prove “charges of murder, kidnapping, conspiracy and forgery against all four arrested accused in the murder case.”

A Mid Day report detailed CBI prosecutor Bharat Badami as saying that one of the main reasons behind the murder of Sheena was property. “Indrani thought that if Sheena got married to Rahul, then the entire property would go to them as Peter was very fond of his son,” Badami is quoted in Mid Day.

Free Press Journal reported that Badami painted the relationship between Vidhi, Sheena and Indrani as contentious — “love-hate” relationship. Badami also said that Indrani wanted to kill Sheena because she was in a relationship with Peter’s son Rahul.

Indrani, her former driver Shyam Rai (who has now turned approver in the case) and Khanna had allegedly strangled Sheena, Indrani’s daughter from an earlier relationship, inside a car in April 2012.

The trio were arrested in August last year, while Peter was arrested in November. According to CBI, Peter was part of the murder conspiracy. Sheena’s body was found in a forest in Raigad. The crime, which came to light in August last year, is allegedly linked to certain financial dealings.

The opening of arguments comes after a considerable amount of delay. The special court had directed CBI to begin arguments on framing of charges in the Sheena Bora murder case and make their opening statement from the next date of hearing scheduled in September. “Prosecutor can argue on framing of charges provided the interest of defence is safeguarded. I will expedite the trial,” special CBI judge HS Mahajan had said. Earlier, special public prosecutors Bharat Badami and Kavita Patil told the court that the prosecution is ready to open the case in support of framing of charges. “We are ready to start the trial,” they had said.

CBI chargesheet

The chargesheet filed by the CBI in October also confirms property angle in the murder.  Sheena (24) was strangled in a car in Mumbai on April 2012 allegedly by her mother Indrani Mukerjea, Indrani’s former husband Sanjeev Khanna and her former driver Shyamvar Rai. Sheena’s body was then dumped in a forest in neighbouring Raigad district.

There had been two charge sheets filed in the case so far. According to the first charge sheet filed on 19 November last year, the CBI had named Indrani, Khanna, and Rai as accused in the case. The trio was arrested in August last year after Rai spilled the beans while he was being interrogated in a case pertaining to illegal possession of arms.

Rai later turned approver in the case. According to investigators, Sheena’s relationship with Rahul, son of Indrani’s current husband and former media baron Peter Mukerjea, was the possible motive behind her murder apart from certain financial dealings. The second charge sheet was filed on 16 February against Peter for his alleged role in the murder plot. He was arrested on 19 November last year.

The agency had stated Sheena was killed as her relationship with Rahul was disapproved by Peter and Indrani both of whom were part of the plot to murder her. However, Peter had denied the allegations. He had cited his emails to prove that he was never against the relationship.

Peter Mukerjea seeks laptop in prison to write autobiography

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Former media baron Peter Mukerjea, arrested in Sheena Bora murder case with his wife Indrani, on Friday filed an application in the CBI court in Mumbai seeking permission to use a laptop in the prison so he could write his autobiography.”I want to write an autobiography and for that I want a laptop without Internet in the jail,” Peter told the special CBI court judge H S Mahajan during the hearing on Friday. In a handwritten application, Peter also said he was finding it very difficult to write in long-hand.If allowed, he would work on the laptop for four hours a day and afterwards hand it back to jail authorities, the application said. “(I am) 61 years old and suffering from occasional memory fatigue and laptop will be of great help to aid in continuing the work without locating details during the writing and scripting process,” Peter said in the application. He also applied for permission to go to Bangalore to attend the wedding of his niece.CBI is likely to file its reply to his applications on December 14. The court is likely to hear arguments on framing of charges in the Sheena Bora murder case on December 19.Interestingly, the court had at the last hearing granted the prime accused in the case Indrani Mukerjea’s application seeking permission to deposit some demonetized currency notes in the bank (through someone outside the jail).Indrani, her former driver Shyam Rai (who has turned approver in the case) and her former husband Sanjeev Khanna are accused of killing her daughter Sheena inside a car in April 2012. Sheena Bora case: CBI agrees to give Peter Mukerjea statement copy of ‘secret’ witness

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –> The CBI on Monday agreed to give a copy of the statement of its ‘secret’ witness to former media baron Peter Mukerjea, arrested in Sheena Bora murder case, but only after deleting certain portions of it as probe in financial transactions with regard to the case was still on.Peter had approached the high court challenging a sessions court order refusing to give him a copy of the statement of prosecution witness no. 11, which was submitted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as part of its supplementary charge sheet in a sealed cover. Additional Solicitor General Anil Singh today told Justice Revati Mohite-Dere that the agency was ready to give a copy of the statement of the witness, but will delete certain portions of it.”Probe in the case is still on. Letters Rogatory have been sent to three foreign countries seeking information about financial transactions between the accused persons. The witness statement contains certain information about this. Hence that portion will be truncated,” Singh told the court. The court accepted this and disposed of Peter’s application.Peter along with his wife Indrani Mukerjea and her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna have been accused of conspiracy and murder of Sheena Bora, Indrani’s daughter from an earlier relationship. While Sheena was killed on April 24, 2012, the case came to light only last year after Indrani’s driver Shyamwar Rai was arrested in another case. Rai was also arrested in the Sheena Bora case but he later turned approver. All the three accused – Peter, Indrani and Sanjeev – are presently in judicial custody.

Sheena Bora murder case: Maria had said Peter Mukerjea was not guilty, says Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis

Mumbai: In a significant revelation in the wake of the Central Bureau of Investigation questioning the senior IPS officer Rakesh Maria in the Sheena Bora murder case, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said the former Mumbai police commissioner had stated that the media baron Peter Mukerjea was not guilty.

Maria was shunted out as Mumbai police chief last year in the middle of Sheena murder probe which he was supervising personally. It was speculated that the government was not happy that he was taking so much interest in the case.

CBI later took over the case and arrested Peter Mukerjea.

According to the charge sheets filed in the case, Peter’s wife Indrani Mukerjea, her former spouse Sanjeev Khanna and her ex-driver Shyamvar Rai strangled Sheena, her daughter from another relationship, in April 2012.

All three were arrested by police; Peter was arrested by CBI later.

“During a police briefing, Maria came to us and said Peter is not guilty. And now we find CBI has made him an accused. CBI is investigating on the lines that Peter is part of the conspiracy,” Fadnavis, who handles the home portfolio himself, said.

“It is something to think about as to how a police officer who was deeply involved in the case thought this way,” Fadnavis said, speaking to reporters at his official residence ‘Varsha’ in Mumbai on Saturday.

CBI earlier this week questioned Maria, now Maharashtra’s Director General (Home Guards); Deven Bharti, Joint Commissioner (Law and Order); and Satya Narayan Choudhary, Deputy Commissioner of Police, because they were part of the initial probe team.

Sheena Bora murder case: CBI quizzes former Mumbai top cop Rakesh Maria, two others

Expanding the scope of investigation in the Sheena Bora murder case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday quizzed three Mumbai Police officials, including former city police commissioner Rakesh Maria.

Maria, who is currently DG Home Guards, was the then police commissioner heading the murder case. Apart from Maria, Joint Commissioner of Police Deven Bharti, and DCP Satyanarayan Chowdhury were also examined by the investigative agency.

The 24-year-old Sheena was strangled in a car in Mumbai in April 2012 allegedly by Indrani, Khanna and Indrani’s former driver Shyamvar Rai. Sheena’s body was then dumped in a forest in neighbouring Raigad district.

The case came to light only last year when Rai was arrested in another case. Rai later turned approver in the murder case.

Maria had reportedly shown personal interest in the case and had himself interrogated the accused including Indrani Mukerjea and Sanjeev Khanna, which is unusual.

Maria was, however, removed from his post as the city police commissioner and promoted as Director General of Home Guards with immediate effect.

It should also be noted that Maria was scheduled to be transferred or promoted on 30 September 2015. His promotion came 22 days ahead of schedule, indicating that it perhaps had something to do with the case.

While several television reports suggested that Maria’s removal was directly related to his involvement in the probe in the high-profile murder case, the Maharashtra Home Department held the changes were made taking into account the law and order factor ahead of last year’s Ganpati festival.

“There was no hurry in transferring Maria. It would have been inappropriate to transfer him on 30 September, in the middle of the festive season as Ganapati festival, a very important event in Maharashtra would be on at that time. Therefore, we decided to advance the promotion of Maria,” Additional Chief Secretary (Home) KP Bakshi said.

According to the CBI charge sheet, Indrani and Peter were against the “intimate relationship” between Sheena and Rahul, Peter’s son from his first wife. He often used to quarrel with Rahul on the issue as he didn’t approve of the relationship between Sheena and his son.

As per the charge sheet, Peter always dissuaded Khanna’s daughter from Indrani, Vidhie from having any contact with Rahul and Sheena.

Peter was initially fine with the relationship between Sheena and Rahul believing it would wane eventually over financial pressures.

In its charge sheet filed on 19 November 2015, CBI had named Indrani, Khanna and Rai as accused in the case.

Peter was arrested on 19 November 2015 for his alleged role in the murder plot. A charge sheet was filed against him by CBI on 16 February 2016.

Sheena Bora case: Commencement of arguments on framing of charges adjourned till 15 November

The prosecution was to begin its arguments for framing of charges in the case today but Peter’s lawyer Aabad Ponda sought time to prepare arguments as the defence had received copies of the second supplementary charge sheet filed by CBI on Friday.

Ponda argued the defence has also not been given statement of one witness and also other documents that the prosecution was relying on.

“We need time to prepare. But looking at the evidence submitted by the prosecution, I can say that there is no case made out to even frame charges against the accused,” Ponda argued.

CBI judge HS Mahajan consented to adjourning the matter but said statement of the witness that is part of the supplementary charge sheet cannot be given at this stage when charges are yet to be framed.

“This court assures that the statement would be provided to the accused once charges are framed in the case,” the court said.

Sheena (24) was strangled in a car here in April 2012 allegedly by Indrani, Khanna and Indrani’s former driver Shyamvar Rai. Sheena’s body was then dumped in a forest in neighbouring Raigad district.

The case came to light only last year when Rai was arrested in another case. Rai later turned approver in the Sheena Bora murder case.

CBI on Friday filed its second supplementary charge sheet before special CBI court.

The agency in its charge sheet countered Peter’s arguments that he was implicated in the case and was not aware about the alleged murder and claimed that the ex-media baron was very much in the know of the conspiracy hatched by Indrani to kill Sheena.

CBI further claimed Peter was also informed by Indrani on selection of spot for disposal of the body.

According to the charge sheet, Indrani and Peter were against the “intimate relationship” between Sheena and Rahul, Peter’s son from his first wife.

Sheena Bora murder case: Peter Mukerjea is indeed involved, says CBI charge sheet

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday filed a supplementary charge sheet against Peter Mukerjea, accused in the Sheena Bora murder case. It said that Sheena’s mother and prime accused, Indrani Mukerjea, kept Peter, her husband, updated on the phone over the selection of spot for the disposal of Sheena’s body. The CBI claimed that Peter “very strategically” tried to keep his son Rahul and daughter Vidhi, from an earlier marriage, away from Sheena, since the murder and the post-murder plan had to be executed in a certain way.The 90-page document by the CBI has 13 witness statements, including one of Mikhail Bora, Indrani’s son. Mikhail and Sheena are Indrani’s children from her first husband Siddhartha Das.The CBI did not disclose the statement of one witness, a lady, to protect her identity. The charge sheet claims that oral and documentary evidence, collected during further investigations, substantiate the charges of a conspiracy, leading to the abduction and murder of Sheena Bora and the role played by each of the accused. The prime witness in the charge sheet is Mikhail Bora and Shyamvar Rai. Mikhail explained as to how another conspiracy was hatched by Indrani and her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna, in connivance with their driver Shyamvar Rai, to allegedly eliminate him the same day.Mikhail, in his statement, said how he and Sheena were disowned by Indrani right from the start and Indrani never accepted him as her son. On his repeated request, when Indrani allowed Mikhail to come to Mumbai, she introduced him to the servants as her brother and Sheena as her sister. The charge sheet further mentions about the email, which Peter had written to Rahul, asking him not to be in contact with Sheena, whom he was dating. An email dated May 29, 2012, from Peter to Rahul reads: “Initially, I was okay with your relationship (with Sheena), as I figured that due to economic pressures, it would break anyway as Sheena would want more from life and that she would tell you this and leave you if she didn’t get it after a while…”The charge sheet further discloses how Rahul in an email to Sheena, on June 19, 2012, mentioned “I do not know what the heck is going on. People are still calling me with their worry. P and I are still giving me bakwaas and warning me about being shot or beaten up.”The CBI said that after Sheena’s murder, Indrani kept Peter informed on phone about the selection of spot for disposing her body and recce conducted for the same. The murder caseSheena (24) was strangled in a car on April 24, 2012, in Mumbai, allegedly by her mother Indrani, Indrani’s former husband Sanjeev Khanna and her former driver Shyamvar Rai. Sheena was engaged to Rahul, son of media honcho Peter Mukerjea, Indrani’s husband. The 24-year-old was allegedly strangled in a car and her body was burnt and dumped at a forest in Raigad, about 84 km from Mumbai. Her purported remains were found a month later and buried by the police, which treated the body as unclaimed

Sheena Bora murder case: CBI charge sheet confirms Peter Mukerjea’s role, property was a motive

A supplementary charge sheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday asserted that former media baron Peter Mukerjea was indeed aware of the murder of Sheena Bora. The report also confirmed property angle in the 2012 murder case. Arguments on framing of charge are set to begin on Saturday.

According to CNN-News18, CBI has asserted that though “Peter was not in India when the murder took place, he was part of the conspiracy.” The charge sheet, third in the case, also said that the investigation has thrown up evidence that “Indrani was in touch with him while she was doing the recce of the place to dispose of her body, and after the disposal of Sheena’s body,” the TV news channel said on Friday.

The charge sheet also asserts that unlike what Peter has been stating, he was against the relationship between his son Rahul and Sheena citing an email conversation between the accused and Rahul.

The charge sheet also throws light on how Sheena and Rahul were separated by Indrani and how Indrani brought Sheena to Mumbai under the pretext of financial assistance, TimesNow said on Friday. “The charge sheet gives details of the relationship between Indrani and Sheena citing few email and SMS exchanges between the two,” it said.

According to the news channel, the charge sheet for the first time also confirms property angle in the murder. “It has brought out in the open details of financial transactions, and wills of Ridhie and Sheena Bora that were not raised by Indrani,” the news channel said. Moder details on the evidence are expected to surface when the case goes on trial.

The agency had stated Sheena was killed as her relationship with Rahul was disapproved by Peter and Indrani both of whom were part of the plot to murder her. However, Peter had denied the allegations. He had cited his emails to prove that he was never against the relationship.

The investigation agency had informed the Bombay High Court of the charge sheet on 17 October. According to a PTI report, the trial on the case is expected to begin in the first week of December. The high court had given the CBI one month’s time (November) to comply with formalities, PTI reported on 17 October.

Sheena Bora murder case: CBI files second supplementary chargesheet

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday filed a second supplementary charge sheet in a special CBI Court in Mumbai in connection with the Sheena Bora murder case.Earlier on Monday, the investigating agency had informed the court that it would be filing a second supplementary charge sheet in this connection on October 21; whereas earlier this week, the agency had informed the Bombay High Court “which is hearing a bail plea filed by Peter Mukerjea who in the jail since November last” that it was planning to file an additional chargesheet in the case. Also, the CBI had sought time during the hearing of the bail plea of Peter Mukerjea in the high court, stating that they want to file a second supplementary chargesheet in the CBI court. However, the high court adjourned the bail hearing for two weeks, of which one week has already been passed. In the meantime, arguments on framing of charges will start at 3 pm on Saturday, while the charges of all the accused would be framed next week and the trial would commence in December and conclude in February. In February, the CBI in a supplementary charge sheet reportedly stated that prime accused Peter and Indrani had been planning Sheena’s murder since 2009, because they were unhappy with her relationship with Rahul. As per report, the 52-page charge sheet also includes call records between the husband and wife after disposing of Sheena’s body.

On Saturday, the agency had told the Bombay High Court that it will be filing a charge sheet in the case this week. Meanwhile, the special court suggested a timeline for the trial, with judge Mahajan saying that CBI, if possible, could start arguments on framing of charges when it submits the charge sheet.

“The charges can be framed by next week. Entire November month will go in complying with some formalities and we can start the trial by first week of December,” the judge said. Sheena (24) was strangled in a car here in April 2012 allegedly by her mother Indrani Mukerjea, Indrani’s former husband Sanjeev Khanna and her former driver Shyamvar Rai. Sheena’s body was then dumped in a forest in neighbouring Raigad district.

In its charge sheet filed on 19 November last year, the CBI had named Indrani, Khanna and Rai as accused in the case. The trio were arrested in August last year after Rai spilled the beans while he was being interrogated in a case pertaining to illegal possession of arms.

CBI had filed a charge sheet against Peter on 16 February for his alleged role in the murder plot. He was arrested on 19 November last year.

The agency had stated Sheena was killed as her relationship with Rahul was disapproved by Peter and Indrani both of whom were part of the plot to murder her.

Sheena Bora murder: Judicial custody of accused extended till Oct 5

<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>The judicial custody of all the three accused in the Sheena Bora murder case was on Tuesday extended till October 5. The lawyer of media magnate Peter Mukerjea, a co-accused in the case, has filed an application to object framing of charges as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is yet to complete its investigation in the case. The order on the application of Peter will be pronounced at 5 p.m. today. The Special CBI court had in July adjourned the hearing on Peter ‘s application, which sought the statement of witness number 32, till July 20. The central agency had in its supplementary chargesheet filed in February, submitted the statement of an unnamed witness in a sealed cover. The CBI had said they are not revealing the identity or the statement of the witness as the investigation was going on. The special court earlier on July 1 gave copies of Shyamwar Rai’s confession to co-accused Sanjeev Khanna and others on the Bombay High Court’s directive. Indrani, Khanna and Shyamwar Rai had allegedly strangled Sheena Bora, Peter’s daughter from an earlier relationship, inside a car in April 2012.The trio was arrested in August last year, while Peter was arrested in November last year. Sheena’s body was found in a forest in Raigad. The crime, which came to light in August last year, is allegedly linked to certain financial dealings.

Sheena Bora murder case: Indrani Mukerjea sat on daughter and strangled her, says driver Rai

Mumbai: Immediately after Sheena Bora’s murder and the subsequent disposal of her body on 24 April, 2012, key accused Indrani Mukerjea allegedly threatened her then driver Shyamvar Rai, who has now turned approver, saying “it won’t be good” for him if he disclosed the incident.

In his confessional statement, which was unsealed by the special CBI court on Friday, following a Bombay High Court directive Thursday, Rai has submitted that Indrani had ‘implicated’ him in an arms case by planting a gun on him soon after Sheena’s murder.

The petition seeking copy of Rai’s confessional statement was filed by Indrani’s former husband Sanjeev Khanna through his lawyer Shreyansh Mithare.

Kisi se kuch kahna nahi, nahi to tumhara bhi thik nahi hoga. (Don’t tell anything to anybody (about the murder) or else it won’t be good for you,” Rai stated quoting Indrani.

Rai’s arrest by Khar police here under Arms Act in August 2015 had blown the lid off the murder.

The trial court recently allowed him to turn approver in the murder case and become a prosecution witness.

According to prosecution, 24-year-old Sheena was murdered on 24 April, 2012. Indrani, Khanna and Rai had allegedly strangled Sheena, Indrani’s daughter from an earlier relationship, inside a car. Her body was later found in a forest in Raigad.

The crime, which came to light last year, is allegedly linked to certain financial dealings.

In his confession recorded last year by a magistrate, Rai had said that Indrani gave him a parcel and asked him to keep it carefully.

“After the murder, Indrani gave me a parcel and asked me to keep it carefully. Later Indrani’s secretary Kajal gave me advance salary of three months and asked me to leave the job”, Rai stated.

He said that when he opened the parcel, he found that it contained a a country-made pistol.

Rai said he failed to dispose of the gun on two occasions as he developed cold feet. He said he was arrested when he tried to get rid of the gun for third time.

About his arrest in August last year, Rai said when he was dumping the gun he suddenly saw some cops around and tried to flee. However, police stopped him and the gun was found on him. “Later they took me to the police chowky where I narrated the incident (about Sheena Bora case),” he said.

Rai said that in March 2012, a month before Sheena’s murder, Kajal had told him that Indrani asked her to open a Skype account for him as she wanted to speak to him (Rai).

“Indrani told me that you are my trusted servant. I want to talk to you. You don’t reveal anything to anybody. Then she said she will take care of my children’s school as well as family’s medical expenses and promised me to make my job permanent”, Rai stated.

According to Rai, Indrani told him that her son Mikail and daughter Sheena are maligning her by addressing her as their mother. She also told him that she is locked in a property dispute with her children.

“Sheena has an affair with Rahul (son of former media baron and Indrani’s current husband Peter Mukerjea who is also arrested in the case) so I want to kill Sheena and Mikail. You don’t worry… your job is of a driver. Another person from Kolkata will do the job (murder)”, Rai said quoting Indrani.

He stated that Indrani later came to Mumbai and asked him to tell Mikhail to come to the city. “She asked me to tell Mikail that she (Indrani) has a lot of wealth and if he comes to Mumbai then they (Rai and Mikail) both can have lot of fun”, Rai said.

“I followed Indrani’s instructions but Mikail refused to come,” Rai said in his confession, which runs into 14 pages.

He stated that Indrani left Mumbai after some days before handing him a doctor’s prescription. Rai said Indrani told him that she would let him know later about what to do with the prescription.

As per Rai, Indrani again contacted him on Skype and directed him to collect a parcel from a person coming from Kolkata.

She also told him to buy six bottles of the prescribed medicine and contact her after reaching Delhi.

“When I reached Delhi, Indrani told me that the person to whom the medicines have to be handed over could not be contacted and hence asked me to come back to Mumbai”, Rai claimed.

He said that Indrani later instructed him to go to Kolkata with the medicines and hand them over to a person at the airport there.

“On 22 April, 2012, Indrani told me to hire a car and go to Lonavala taking old route and later come back to Mumbai via Khandla and Khopoli. She asked me to park the vehicle at her residence (Marlow building at Worli)”, Rai stated.

Next day, I was told to pick up Indrani from airport and we reached home. He said Indrani asked him to take her to Lonavala through the same route on that day.

“Upon reaching there, Indrai asked me to purchase a 20-litre petrol can. When we reached Khandala she ventured out of the vehicle and scouted some places, saying it is perfect for Mikail.

“Then she called Mikhail and spoke to him over phone. After that when we reached Khopoli she asked me to take Pen route, did the same thing, and remarked that it was a nice place for Sheena. Remember these places we have to come back tomorrow (24 April, 2012)”, Rai said.

He claimed that on 24 April, Indrani first visited a medical store, then a wine shop and handed him over a packet. “She told me that she will return after going to a parlour,” he stated.

Rai stated the packet contained a vodka bottle, two bottles of mineral water, six bottles of medicines and a liquor bottle along with hand gloves.

He further stated that Indrani later mixed the medicines in water and liquor bottles.

“On that day, Indrani left her home for suburban Bandra and picked up (Sanjeev) Khanna and Sheena from outside National College. She gave Sheena one of the water bottles and after some time when I saw from the rear mirror the girl had dozed off.

“After a while, Indrani told me to park the vehicle roadside and asked Khanna (who was sitting alongside Rai on front seat) to shift to back seat”, Rai stated, adding Indani also asked him to come to back seat and gag Sheena.

“I saw Khanna grabbing Sheena by her hair and Indrani strangulating her after sitting on her lap. When I gagged her, Sheena bit my finger and it began to bleed. However, later she dropped down on the seat”, Raid stated.

Rai said that Indrani told him that Sheena now “got a three-bedroom flat”.

As per Rai, Indrani also told him that since Rahul was continuously calling on Sheena’s mobile phone, she (Indrani) would send him a message (from Sheena’s phone) “to shut him up”.

“Indrani and Khanna stuffed Sheena’s body into a bag and asked me to keep it in garage”, Rai stated.

He said when they returned to Indrani’s house, he saw Mikail sitting there and having drinks.

“Indrani told me that even after drinking so much liquor, Mikail has still not lost his senses. At this, Khanna said that Mikail can be taken care of later as there would be a problem in carrying two bodies”, Rai stated.

He disclosed that Indrani called him in early hours of 25 April and told him to take out the bag (containing Sheena’s body) from the garage.

He said Indrani also asked him to keep the petrol can in the car dickey.

“Indrani and Khanna then made Sheena’s body sit on the back seat. I was driving the car with Khanna by my side and Indrani sitting next to the body. Indrani asked me to drive towards Pen. Khanna purchased 10 litre petrol on the way and by that time Indrani was busy applying makeup to Sheena”, Rai stated.

At Pen, Indrani asked Rai to stop the car at the location chosen by them to dispose of Sheena’s body.

“Khanna and Indrani pulled Sheena out of car and I helped them. We placed her near a bush in the forest. Indrani covered the body with a sari and also threw the gloves on her. In the meantime, Khanna poured petrol on the body and Indrani set it on fire”, Rai claimed.

CBI had filed a chargesheet against Indrani, Khanna and Rai for murdering Sheena and disposing of her body, on 19 November last year.

As per the chargesheet filed by CBI against Peter in February this year, Sheena was killed as her relationship with Rahul was disapproved by the former media baron and Indrani.

Since her arrest, Indrani has been lodged in a women’s jail in Byculla in South Mumbai, While Peter, arrested last November on charges of being part of the murder conspiracy, and Khanna are in Arthur Road jail in the city.

Shyamvar Rai, who recently turned approver by a special CBI court, has claimed that Indrani Mukerjea, the main accused in the Sheena Bora murder case, had strangled her daughter inside a car on 24 April, 2012, reported Times Now.

In his 12-page statement to the magistrate, Rai gave details of events leading up to Sheena’s murder. “Indrani asked me to stop the car. Khanna got into the backseat. I was asked to cover Sheena’s mouth, while Indrani strangulated her.”

Indrani’s assistant had asked Rai to take three months severance pay, an amount paid to an employee on the early termination of a contract, and leave, claimed the 12-page statement, as reported by Times Of India.

According to India Today, Rai had also revealed that Indrani planned the murder well in advance and visited the location of the murder, a day before. On the day of disposing Sheena’s body, Indrani and Khanna strategically made Indrani’s murder look like suicide by immolation.

On reaching the spot of murder, Indrani, Khanna and Rai brought Sheena’s body out of the car and Indrani threw gloves and a saree on her daughter’s body, the India Today report added. Rai then said that Khanna sprinkled petrol over Sheena’s body and Indrani set the body on fire.

Nowhere in his testimony has Rai made any allegations against Peter Mukerjea, confirmed a lawyer, reported The Times Of India.

A special CBI court on 20 June had made Indrani Mukerjea’s former driver Shyamvar Rai, an approver in the Sheena Bora murder case along with granting him a pardon.

Earlier, on 11 May, Rai had sought to turn approver, saying he wanted to “disclose all truths” as he had taken part in Sheena’s killing by strangulation and was present at the time of the murder in 2012.

Recording his statement before a special CBI court then, Rai had said he was under “no pressure, threat or coercion” to reveal the facts in the case and was “repentant” about his act.

Rai was the first accused to be arrested in the Sheena Bora murder case in August 2015.

Sheena Bora case: HC tells CBI court to give Shyamvar Rai’s confessional statement to all co-accused

The Bombay High Court on Thursday directed the Special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court to give the confessional statement recorded before a magistrate by accused-turned-approver Shyamvar Rai, to all co-accused in the case.Justice Sadhana Jadhav while directing the CBI court said, “It is a statutory duty of the prosecution to provide all the evidence which it is relying on to the accused, help them defend.” The court gave this direction while allowing a petition filed by accused Sanjeev Khanna who had sought for the confessional statement.<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>The court while setting aside the order of the CBI court rejecting Khanna’s application noted, “Prosecution is in a case and people are not prosecuted. The sessions court while rejecting the plea noted that prosecution is not relying on the confessional statement at the present moment. This contention was incorrect as the trial is yet to commence.”CBI advocate Poornima Kantharia said that the investigation is still in progress, so the statement would be released as soon as the investigation is complete. Sanjeev Khanna’s advocate Hrishikesh Mundargi at the same time argued that the prosecution cannot hold back the statements and it’s their right under Section 207 of the Evidence Act to get the statement. On April 24, 2012, Indrani Mukerjea allegedly strangulated and murdered her daughter Sheena Bora along with driver Shyamwar Rai and her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna. They were arrested in August last year while Peter Mukerjea, Indrani’s husband was arrested in November, 2015 on charges of murder, abduction and destruction of evidence. Rai was made an approver in the case on June 20, 2016 and has been granted pardon on certain terms and conditions.

Sheena Bora murder case: Accused Sanjeev Khanna seeks copy of driver’s confessional statement

Sanjeev Khanna, arrested in connection with the murder of his former wife Indrani Mukerjea’s daughter Sheena Bora, has approached Bombay High Court seeking a copy of confessional statement of Indrani’s former driver Shyamvar Rai, who was recently made approver in the case.Khanna sought the copy of Rai’s statement recorded under section 164 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) before a magistrate. He approached the high court after the sessions court rejected his application seeking the same.<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Khanna’s petition came up before Justice Sadhana Jadhav on Thursday, who posted it for hearing to Friday as the prosecuting agency CBI was not prepared to argue the petition.Apart from Khanna and Rai, key accused Indrani and her husband and former media baron Peter Mukerjea are also in custody for their involvement in the alleged murder of Sheena Bora. According to the prosecution, Sheena was murdered on April 24, 2012, but the crime came to light after the arrest of Rai in another case.Rai was the first accused to be arrested in the case in August 2015, taking the lid off the murder, after he was picked up in connection with an arms case. A sessions court recently allowed Rai to turn approver in the case and a prosecution witness. The court also granted pardon to Rai.Last year, Rai had recorded his confessional statement before the magistrate under the provisions of section 164, which unlike the police statement, is admissible in the trial. Indrani Mukerjea, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and Rai had allegedly strangled Sheena (24), Indrani’s daughter from an earlier relationship, inside a car in April 2012. Sheena’s body was found in a forest in Raigad. The crime, which came to light in August last year, is allegedly linked to certain financial dealings. The trio was arrested in August last year, while Peter Mukerjea was arrested in November. Sheena Bora murder: Driver Shyam Rai turns approver against Indrani Mukerjea

A special CBI court on Monday made Indrani Mukerjea’s former driver Shyamvar Rai an approver in the Sheena Bora murder case. The court has also granted him pardon.

“I saw Sheena murder,” Rai claimed to cops, reports CNN News 18. Rai has been ordered by the judges to reveal everything.

Sheena Bora’s brother Mikhail Bora too demands to be made a witness. “Indrani is lying about my involvement in Sheena’s murder” said Mikhail as reported by CNN News 18.

The CBI on 6 June had told a special court that it does not have any objection in making key accused Indrani’s former driver Shyamvar Rai an approver in the Sheena Bora murder case.

“We have filed our reply and have said that we don’t have any objection in making Rai an approver provided that he reveals all the truth in connection with the case,” a CBI official had said.

Special CBI prosecutor Kavita Patil, on 17 May, had sought more time to file its reply on the desire expressed by Rai to turn approver in the case. Special Judge HS Majahan had then adjourned the case until 6 June.

The development has come after Rai, an accused, wrote a two-page letter to the court last month seeking pardon in the case while stating that he wants to tell all.

Rai was the first accused to be arrested in the case in August 2015.

The killing came to light after Rai was picked up in connection with an arms case and later spilled the beans.

Rai last year had recorded his confessional statement before the magistrate under the provisions of Section 164, which unlike the police statement, is admissible in the trial. Indrani, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and Rai had allegedly strangled Sheena (24), Indrani’s daughter from an earlier relationship, inside a car in April 2012.

Her body was found in a forest in Raigad. The crime, which came to light in August last year, is allegedly linked to certain financial dealings.

The trio was arrested in August last year while Indrani’s husband and former media baron Peter Mukerjea was arrested in November. According to the CBI, Peter was part of the murder conspiracy.

While Peter (59) and Khanna are lodged in Arthur Road prison, Indrani (43) is in Byculla Womens’ Jail.

Sheena Bora murder case: Special CBI court rejects Peter Mukerjea’s bail plea

A Special CBI Court on Monday rejected the bail plea of former media honcho Peter Mukerjea, an accused in the Sheena Bora murder case. The judge said that he went through the case diaries and there were certain facts in the case diaries, which he couldn’t disclose to the defence. On the basis of those facts, Mukerjea was not granted bail. The CBI had on May 13 opposed Mukerjea’s bail application, saying that he was one of the main accused in the case and could tamper evidences since he was very influential. Mukerjea had earlier in March moved a fresh bail plea before the special CBI court, calling the allegations levelled against him as “false, baseless and unbelievable”.<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>He also put the onus on his wife Indrani, saying that she was highly ambitious and was willing to go to any length for that. In the bail application, Mukerjea claimed that it was not him, but Indrani, who objected to Rahul and Sheena’s relationship. He had also denied the allegation of being informed by Indrani about the murder and stated that the said calls were made by Indrani to her daughter Vidhie.

A local court on Wednesday permitted CBI to question the four accused in the Sheena Bora murder case, including Indrani Mukerjea, afresh. The agency had sought permission to interrogate Indrani Mukerjea, her husband and former media baron Peter Mukerjea, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and her former driver Shyam Rai for ten days in the jail. “The application to interrogate the accused in the jail is allowed subject to their medical fitness,” said the special CBI court’s judge H S Mahajan. CBI, which has already filed a charge sheet in the case, today said it was looking for more evidence against the accused and probing possible connivance of some other persons. The arrested accused needed to be questioned again to “extract more information as well as to verify certain facts which emerged during the investigation”, the application said.<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>It also said that it wanted to unlock Peter Mukerjea’s mobile phone which is secured by thumb impression. All accused are in jail under judicial custody.

Sheena, Indrani’s daughter from an earlier relationship, was murdered on 24 April, 2012 and her body was burnt before it was dumped in a forest in adjoining Raigad district of Maharashtra.

The murder came to light in August 2015 and it was initially probed by Mumbai Police before being handed over to CBI in September.

In the second chargesheet filed in mid-February, CBI claimed that the 24-year-old was killed as her father and Indrani strongly disapproved of her relationship with Peter’s son Rahul. Both Peter and Indrani were part of the murder plot, it said.

Sheena was working with Mumbai Metro before she went missing in April 2012.

The first chargesheet was filed on 19 November by CBI and it named Indrani, Khanna and Rai as accused. The document, running into more than 1,000 pages and containing statements of 150 witnesses, 200 documents and seven statements recorded before a magistrate, was submitted before Magistrate RV Adone at Esplanade court in South Mumbai.

The same day Peter was arrested for his alleged role in the murder and his name figured in the second document. He was in CBI custody for two weeks before being sent to judicial custody.

The second chargesheet did not mention details of the financial transactions and the agency had then indicated it may submit another document in future.

It also said that when she fell unconscious in jail last October, it took more than six hours for the treatment to start.

Indrani, her current husband and former media baron Peter Mukerjea, former husband Sanjeev Khanna, and her former driver Shyam Rai have been arrested in the Sheena Bora murder case. Sheena Bora murder case: Indrani Mukerjea’s former husband Sanjeev Khanna seeks bail

Sanjeev Khanna, former husband of Indrani Mukerjea and her co-accused in the Sheena Bora murder case, on Wednesday filed a bail application in the sessions court here contending that the investigators have failed to find any possible motive to commit the crime on his part.”It will come up for hearing on Saturday,” said his lawyer Shreyansh Mithare. The application states that Khanna has been wrongly implicated in the case.”After reading the charge sheet, the role which is attributed to Khanna cannot be held sufficient to implicate him in the alleged murder….It isn’t the prosecution case that he has strangulated Sheena,” it says.<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Nor does the charge sheet suggest that he benefited from the crime and none of the witnesses has explained what motive Khanna could have had, the bail plea says.”Prosecution has miserably failed to attribute the motive for the commission of the alleged crimes,” it says.Khanna has also argued that statement of Rahul (the son of media baron and Indrani’s husband Peter Mukerjea) has discrepancies and cannot be relied upon. Khanna was identified in the identification parade before two persons including Rahul but bail application says the procedure was invalid because his photo had already been published in media and so this evidence is not admissible.Sheena Bora, Indrani’s daughter from an earlier relationship, was murdered here in April 2012 and her body was disposed of in a forest in Raigad district. Indrani, Khanna, her driver Shaymvar Rai and Peter Mukerjea have been arrested in the case. The bail application also says that Khanna was in Mumbai on the day of the murder only to meet his daughter Vidhie.”(Khanna) had only come to Mumbai because Indrani had called him so that he could take Vidhie to Kolkata for a few days to spend some time with his family and celebrate the his birthday.”But he could not meet Vidhie as Indrani wanted to go to Kolkata herself first and `inspect’ his family environment to decide if Vidhie would be comfortable staying with Khanna and his family, it says.Khanna has also denied CBI’s allegation that he tried to access Sheena’s email account. “On seeing the emails, he duly forwarded them to Indrani without sensing any wrong-doing,” the bail application says. He was implicated solely on the basis of the fact that he had met Indrani Mukerjea during the period when the alleged murder took place, it says.
