Rank holder no more: Bihar Board cancels results of topper from science stream

Patna: The Bihar School Examination Board on Saturday cancelled result of Science topper and another rank holder from the Science stream after their performance was not found up to mark in a rigorous re-test of 13 rank holders of state Intermediate examination.

“The BSEB has decided to cancel result of Science topper Saurabh Shrestha and another rank holder in the same stream Rahul Kumar as their performance in yesterday’s (Friday’s) re-test was found not up to mark,” Chairman of BSEB Lalkeshwar Prasad Singh told reporters.

Kumar, who also hails from Bishun Rai college of Vaishali along with Saurabh Shrestha and Arts topper Ruby Rai,
is the third topper in 2016 Intermediate examination in science stream.

“Rest 11 toppers who had appeared for written test as well as interview before an expert team have been found excellent and given clean chit,” the chairman said.

Arts topper Ruby Rai, who could not appear for re-test on Friday on grounds of poor health has been given a week’s time to come before a team of experts for authentication of her marks.

“Ruby Rai has to appear for re-test on 11 June,” Singh said.

Rai, the infamous Humanities topper who pronounced Political Science as ‘Prodigal Science’ and described it as a
subject related to cooking in a video, had sent an application stating that she was under “depression” and so could not turn up.

The chairman announced the Board’s decision after a marathon meeting with Board officials, a team of experts that
conducted re-test on Friday and also members of the anti-corruption committee of the Board.

A total of 13 toppers except for Rai, had on Friday appeared before a team of experts for authentication of the marks obtained by them in the wake of a media expose pointing fingers at their merit.

Nand Kishore Yadav, Deputy Director of Bishun Rai College, where the student had studied carried the letter to the board.Both Ruby and Science topper Saurabh Kumar hail from Bishun Rai College in Bhagwanpur in Vaishali district which is in the eye of a storm after the media expose.Some news channels had earlier shown the girl, who topped the state government’s plus two examination in Humanities,purportedly pronouncing ‘Political Science’ as ‘Prodigal Science’ and describing it as a subject related to cooking.Similarly, the boy who topped Science stream was purportedly unaware of electron and proton.Following the expose, the BSEB put on hold the results of the toppers of Arts and Science streams of class XII examination and called 14 toppers of Arts and Science streams for a test before subject experts today.Science topper Saurabh Kumar whose knowledge of the subject is under a scanner attended the test today. “Those appearing for test today were subjected to a fresh written test and were interviewed on their subjects,” the BSEB Chairman said.On being asked when will the results of the authentication test come out, the Chairman did not specify any time. “The expert committee will first give its report after that it will go to a committee dealing with use of unfair means in examination before the final results,” he said.With agency inputs.

Political Science subject is about one’s cooking skills, says Bihar board topper

One of the toppers of Bihar intermediate exam has embarrassed School Examination Board after she failed to pronounce ‘Political Science’ and called it a subject about one’s cooking skills.A video of a television channel has gone viral after it showed the arts stream topper could not answer to queries about the subjects she had excelled in. State’s Arts topper Ruby Ray, who scored 444 out of 500 was completely clueless when she was asked what political science was all about, she said that it deals with one’s cooking skills and pronounced the name of the subject as ‘Prodigal Science’.<!– /11440465/Dna_Article_Middle_300x250_BTF –>Embarrassed by the alleged academic incompetence of its state-level toppers, the Bihar School Examination Board has ordered an investigation.According to Times of India, the authorities have asked the students to appear for an interview and once again take a small examination related to their subject, in spite of the fact that their results have been declared on May 29.”Top five students of all the streams- Arts, Commerce, and Science would be interviewed by a special committee about their subject and also take a small test,” BSEB chairman Lalkeshwar Prasad Singh told the daily.”I have received a complaint that arts topper was not competent enough to top the subject. But we have re-examined her papers and could not find any problem in that. Hence, we have decided to call the top five students of all the streams and interview them. This is to find out the root cause behind this problem,” he said.
