The Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh is creating roadblocks for execution of several welfare schemes initiated by the Centre, the reason why benefits are not reaching the intended beneficiaries in the state, BJP president Amit Shah said at a media briefing in Lucknow on Tuesday.

“Modi government has launched a number of new schemes, including free LPG connection for BPL families and Kisan Fasal Bima Yojana, in the last two years, but the state government is creating roadblocks in its delivery,” Shah said.

Accusing the ruling Samajwadi Party of shielding the corrupt and the goons, Shah asked why the Akhilesh Yadav government was not acting against those it had itself accused of corruption during the earlier Bahujan Samaj Party rule.

“They came to power on the plank of ending corruption allegedly prevalent during the BSP government. Why have they not acted against any corrupt in the last four years and sent them to jail?” the BJP president said.

When asked on the presidential candidate for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh elections, Shah said, “We have decided not to project anyone as the face for polls yet.”

Talking on the lines of the recent exposé of the Karnataka MLAs seeking bribe on in lieu of their support in the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, Shah clarified, “There is no question of indulging in horse-trading in the biennial polls; BJP has enough votes for victory.”

Targeting the Uttar Pradesh government for what he said was the “deteriorating” law and order situation in the state in the wake of the Mathura violence, Shah wondered aloud how could goons shoot at police officers with impunity.
